Rochester is a city and so like every other British city has a magnificent Cathedral and just a minute away is Rochester Castle too.
Adjoining Rochester is the town of Chatham with its very impressive naval centre. Climb aboard old sailing vessels or explore a nuclear submarine. Visit what was the worlds longest brick built building and see how ropes are made, obviously important to sailing vessels but perhaps surprisingly still manufacturing today for the British and American military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Chatham has always been an important military centre and in its naval museum, you can relive the wars and raids of the Dutch navy or visit the home of The Royal Engineers and see their long history which continues to this day. Chatham is also home to a large Napoleonic fortress.
