Authenticity Over Theatre

The dark corners of old London — even Londoners seldom see them

London has over 2,000 years of wars, invasions, plagues, fires, squalor, murders and executions woven into its streets. The ghosts are not theatrical inventions — they are the documented residue of real events, real people and real tragedies that took place in the lanes and alleys of the original City of London. This private tour takes you through them, almost entirely away from other tourists, prioritising authenticity over the implausible tales you’ll find on other ghost walks.

The route winds through Roman, Viking and medieval streets, Georgian passageways and the remnants of old Victorian slums. Hauntings from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. You’ll almost certainly not see another tourist group the entire time — which, when the subject is ghosts, is exactly as it should be.

💀
The headless ghost of St Botolph Beheaded on the orders of King Charles II, the headless ghost of St Botolph has been reported in and around the church for centuries. We begin the tour here, in the fine tradition of London’s gory history.
🏦
The Bank of England — a lady looking for her brother At the heart of London’s financial district, be careful what you say should you be approached by a woman asking for the whereabouts of her unfortunate brother. One of the most chilling and documented hauntings in the City.
🍺
The pub poltergeists — two Victorians’ fight to the death Just recently, the ghosts of two Victorian men have been scaring drinkers at a pub on our route. Their tragic fight to the death is a story that has never been forgotten — by the living or, apparently, by them.
👦
The ghost boy who still befriends children — and St Mary le Bow’s curse An innocent young boy who died 300 years ago and yet still befriends visiting children to this day. Angry poltergeists, evil murderesses. And the terrible history and curse of St Mary le Bow — a church at the very heart of medieval London.

Why This Tour Is Different

No crowds. No actors. No invented stories. Just the real history of a haunted city.

Most ghost tours pack 30 or 40 people into a group and lead them between the same well-worn spots, armed with theatrical exaggeration and embellished tales. This tour does none of that. As a private tour through lanes that most people never find, it can take you to corners of the City that group tours could never access — and every haunting it covers is grounded in documented history, not invention.

The tour runs at both 10am and 3pm — early afternoon for those who prefer their ghosts in daylight, which somehow makes the stories no less unsettling. It ends conveniently close to a fine old pub next to a tube station. You may well need a stiff drink before making your way back.

👻 We will normally not see any other tourist groups on our entire route. Just you, the alleyways, and whoever — or whatever — else might be there.
