Leafy Bloomsbury,
in its Autumn Glory
Where Virginia Woolf and Dickens walked. Where the Suffragettes met. Where Orwell imagined 1984. Where the world’s first public museum opened. A 69-minute 360° video walk through what may be the most literary square mile on Earth — filmed in the golden autumn of lockdown London.
Pay to View — £11The most literary square mile in the world
The Bloomsbury Literature Video Tour is a world first — a 360° video tour that lets you move the screen and look wherever you like as the tour plays. It works beautifully on phones, tablets, and computers.
See beautiful leafy Bloomsbury in its autumnal, colourful glory as we explore the parks and streets. Visit the squares and houses where many of the literary and cultural giants of the English-speaking world lived, wrote, and changed the course of history. We filmed this during the height of Covid, so we have Bloomsbury and its beautiful garden squares entirely to ourselves.
Giants of Bloomsbury
We walk the very streets where they lived, worked and were inspired.
Virginia Woolf
Novelist and co-founder of the Bloomsbury Group — we visit the squares where she lived and wrote Mrs Dalloway and To the Lighthouse.
Charles Dickens
Lived and worked in Bloomsbury during the writing of some of his greatest novels, including Oliver Twist.
George Orwell
See the building that inspired the terrifying Ministry of Truth in his masterpiece Nineteen Eighty-Four.
George Frideric Handel
The great composer of Messiah, and a central figure in the founding of the pioneering Foundling Hospital.
The Suffragettes
Bloomsbury was a hotbed of the fight for women’s suffrage. We’ll visit locations central to that extraordinary campaign.
Aleister Crowley
The self-proclaimed “Wickedest Man in the World” — occultist, writer, and a thoroughly Bloomsbury oddity.
World-Changing Institutions
Bloomsbury isn’t just about writers. It’s home to some of the most important institutions in the English-speaking world — pioneers in science, education, medicine and culture.
We’ll see the British Museum, the world’s first public museum, founded in 1753. We’ll visit the story of the Foundling Hospital, one of the first charities of its kind. We’ll pass Great Ormond Street Hospital, with its famous link to Peter Pan (JM Barrie left the rights to the hospital in perpetuity). And we’ll see the world-leading educational and scientific institutions that have made Bloomsbury the intellectual heart of London for over two centuries — many of which appear constantly in British TV and film.
A unique moment, beautifully captured
This tour was filmed in autumn 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic. Bloomsbury’s beautiful garden squares were glowing in their full autumnal colours — and we had them completely to ourselves.
In full 360° video, you can look up at the trees, around at the Georgian facades, and wherever your curiosity takes you as the tour plays. It’s the next best thing to being there — and arguably, with this light and this quiet, better than most people will ever experience it in person.
“Bloomsbury is where I went to university for four years — and quite possibly my favourite part of London. I hope, after this tour, it will be yours too.” — Stephen, Ye Olde England Tours
