For Wolf Hall fans — and Tudor history lovers

The real Tudor London that Hilary Mantel wrote about — still here, hiding in plain sight

Wolf Hall brought Thomas Cromwell back to life for millions of readers and viewers. But the real locations — the streets he walked, the buildings he owned, the courts where he schemed and the spot where he was executed — are all still here in London, largely unknown and unvisited. This private tour finds every one of them and brings the whole extraordinary story alive in the very places it happened.

This is not just a tour for Wolf Hall fans, though they will love every moment of it. It is a tour for anyone fascinated by the Tudors — by Henry VIII and his court, by Thomas More and Cardinal Wolsey, by the Reformation that transformed England forever and by the man at the centre of it all who rose from a blacksmith’s son in Putney to the most powerful person in England — before Henry turned on him too.

🏛️
The remains of Cromwell’s vast City of London estate Right in the heart of the modern City, the remains of what was Thomas Cromwell’s extraordinary London estate still survive — including Drapers Hall, built on land that was once part of his property. Tantalising fragments of Tudor London hiding behind 21st century glass and steel.
⚖️
Grey’s Inn, Sir Thomas More & the lanes of Tudor London Grey’s Inn, where Cromwell studied law and began his extraordinary rise. Quiet lanes and alleys that have barely changed since the 16th century. Places connected to Sir Thomas More, Catherine of Aragon and the turbulent court of Henry VIII.
👑
The only statue of Henry VIII in London Surprisingly, there is only one statue of Henry VIII in the whole of London — and most people have never seen it. We visit it on this tour. A remarkable omission for the most famous English monarch of them all.
🗡️
Tower Hill — the execution spot Wolf Hall never shows The tour ends at Tower Hill — the poignant spot just a short walk from Traitors’ Gate where Cromwell was executed in 1540, along with Sir Thomas More, the Earl of Essex, Henry Howard and the Duke of Somerset. All commemorated. All brought to life.

Five Hours for the Full Story

The Extended Tour adds Westminster — and the world of Cardinal Wolsey

The Standard 3-hour tour covers the City — Cromwell’s estate, Grey’s Inn, the Henry VIII statue, the Tudor lanes and Tower Hill. It is a complete and deeply satisfying experience. But the Extended 5-hour tour adds two hours in Westminster that open up the full scope of the Tudor story.

Westminster adds Lambeth Palace — home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and central to the whole story of the English Reformation. The remains of York Place at Whitehall, which was Cardinal Wolsey’s magnificent London residence before Henry took it for himself. And St James’s Palace, still a working royal palace today. For anyone who wants to truly immerse themselves in the Tudor world, the five-hour tour is the one.

👑 The 5-hour tour also includes a very special additional extra — a visit to the area where Cromwell’s childhood home once stood, completing the full arc of one of the most extraordinary lives in English history.
