From Vikings to Robin Hood to the Industrial Revolution — Nottingham’s story is extraordinary
Nottingham is one of England’s most layered and fascinating cities — a place where Robin Hood, medieval castles, ancient underground caves, lacemaking heritage and the industrial revolution all collide. It sits at the very heart of England, easily reached by direct train from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
Nottingham is home to the largest public square in the United Kingdom, a rich history of lacemaking and the industrial revolution, legendary football, and one of the greatest concentrations of underground cave systems of any city in Europe. Our private walking tour weaves together all the best of it — above ground and below.

All Things Robin Hood
Following in the footsteps of England’s most enduring legend
There is one figure who epitomises Nottingham above all else, and we follow hot on his heels to the key locations across the city that are pivotal to his story. First stop: Nottingham Castle, home of Robin’s nemesis the Sheriff of Nottingham — dramatically positioned on a sandstone cliff above the city.
It is considerably quieter here now than it was 900 years ago, and with a bit of luck we normally get a good look around inside the castle without too many sword fights or any unpleasant encounters with Sir Guy of Gisburne. (Though perhaps I should offer that as an optional extra.)

After the tour Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is right there — built into the rock beneath the castle in 1189, frequented by Crusaders, and still serving. It is the perfect place to raise a glass to an extraordinary day.
