The Original Chartwell House Tour
The man who saved the world β and the home where he did it
Chartwell House in the beautiful Kent countryside was home to Sir Winston Churchill β the most famous of all our Prime Ministers and the wartime leader whose determination shaped the course of history. His name stands above centuries of great Prime Ministers, from Wellington and Gladstone to Thatcher and Blair.
We collect you from your central London hotel and take you directly to Chartwell, deep in the Kentish countryside. The house is one of the finest properties in the care of the National Trust and is kept almost exactly as it was during Churchill’s lifetime β walking through it, it is easy to imagine him striding in from the garden, or putting the finishing touches on one of his many splendid paintings.

The House & Gardens
Almost exactly as Churchill left it
Chartwell is one of the finest properties in the care of the National Trust β and one of the most personally evocative. Unlike many great houses that feel like museums, Chartwell feels lived-in. Churchill’s hats hang in the hallway. His easel stands in the studio. His papers are on the desk.
The walled garden was a particular passion β Churchill built much of the garden walls himself as a form of relaxation between the immense pressures of political life. To walk through them is to understand something deeply human about the man behind the legend.
There is also an excellent gift shop and cafΓ© at Chartwell β and the views from the garden terrace across the Weald of Kent are, as Churchill himself might have said, magnificent.

We created the original Churchill Walking Tour too β exploring the wartime London streets, Cabinet War Rooms and the places that defined his greatest years. The perfect companion to a Chartwell visit.
