Nottingham Historic Pub Tour
A pub with a canal going through it. England’s possibly oldest pub, built into the caves beneath a Norman castle. A monastery dissolved by Henry VIII. Five extraordinary historic pubs — a free drink in every one — and stories you won’t find anywhere else on earth.

Nottingham’s pub history is in a league of its own
Nottingham is one of England’s great pub cities — but not just for the quality of the ale. The pubs here have stories attached to them that are genuinely unique. Some you simply won’t find anything comparable to anywhere else in the world. Our historic pub tour visits five of the finest, weaving between them through the lanes and streets of the city as we go — discovering history, scandal, Robin Hood connections and more along the way.
A free drink is included at every pub we visit — beer, real ale, cider or soft drink, your choice. The tour works perfectly as a standalone afternoon, or as a wonderful complement to the Nottingham Walking Tour if you have a full day in the city.
One of our stops is genuinely unique — a historic pub with a navigable canal cutting right through the building itself. There is nowhere else quite like it.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem has one of the strongest claims to being the oldest pub in the country — carved into the sandstone caves beneath Nottingham Castle, frequented by Crusaders heading south for the Holy Land.
One of our pubs was the dining hall of a medieval monastery — dissolved on the orders of Henry VIII. Given that was in 1539, you can imagine how old the building is.
The Bell Inn — warm, atmospheric, and full of history
Between pubs we explore the historic streets and stories of Nottingham
More Than a Pub Crawl
History, murder, executions and Robin Hood — woven through every stop
The pub tour is a brilliant way to see Nottingham’s historic centre as we weave between pubs through the city’s streets and lanes. Between stops there will be glimpses of notable sights, stories of murders and executions viewed from a comfortable distance of several centuries, Robin Hood connections, and all the fascinating texture of one of England’s most layered cities.
Each pub is authentic, genuinely historic and has a real atmosphere — these are not tourist traps but proper Nottingham institutions, each with its own remarkable story. Large groups are very welcome — the tour works brilliantly for parties of all sizes.
