London Cemetery Tour

The London Cemetery Tour is another one of our fun off-the-beaten-track tours and here we will visit some of the most incredible cemeteries in the world.   There are more dead people than living in London and on this tour we will visit the graves and tombs of some of the people that made Britain and the modern world what it is today.

We’ll also learn about the terrible poverty and sanitation of Victorian London. We will visit one of the old London Cemeteries where 70,000 people are tightly buried together. Then visit 2 of the Magnificent Seven Cemeteries that were built by the Victorians. An attempt to try and improve the city for both the living and the dead.

The Cemetery that is also a Royal Park

As well as the wonderful tombs and and graves, we will see some incredible architecture some of which takes inspiration from everything from The Vatican to Ancient Egypt.   Dr John Snow and Emmeline Pankhurst are to name just a few figures in Brompton. We will also visit what is possibly the only known Time Machine in the world.

Kensal Green is over a mile in length and even more so than Brompton, is almost as much a park and nature reserve as a cemetery.  With a rather overgrown and gothic character, we will explore some of the 205,000+ burials here including Charles Babbage, perhaps the original computer designer all the way back in Victorian times.  We will see grand tombs from royalty and academia. Also simple graves such as those of little Marigold Churchill and a literary giant of recent years, Harold Pinter.
