This Battle of Britain tour will take your away from your Central London by car. We will visit two pivotal sites and a memorial to some of the forgotten heroes of the Battle of Britain.
The Battle of Britain Bunker
First we will visit the Battle of Britain bunker at Uxbridge which housed RAF Fighter Command’s No.11 Group Operations Room throughout the Second World War, the room from which most of the RAF’s side of the Battle of Britain was co-ordinated. Key decisions that would decide the fate of the nation were taken in the bunker throughout 1940 and it was thanks to the tireless work of the plotters and controllers that the RAF’s fighter pilots managed to keep the Luftwaffe at bay.
This amazing bunker is preserved exactly as it was on September 15th 1940. It is here in the oldest airfield which dates from 1915 that Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill uttered one of his most famous phrases ‘“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few”.
You can see the famous map room below.

After visiting the bunker and the associated small but incredible new museum we will journey just a few miles to the Polish War Memorial. Pay respect to the heroic pilots who came to Britain when their own country was overrun by the Nazis. The Poles are remembered for packing a punch beyond their numbers as they fought for our freedom.

Fighter Command
Then we will finish the day by visiting the former home of Fighter Command. This is where Air Chief Marshal Dowding where he took on the task of building up the RAF to fight off invasion and emerge beaten but victorious from The Battle of Britain.
There is no bunker here but Fighter Command was housed in a former Royal Palace. It was an active RAF base into the 21st Century. The museum rooms and elegant surroundings make for a great way to end the tour. Perhaps have a drink or light snack at the cafe on the high ground overlooking London.
