The Lambeth Walk

You’ve sang the song, now do the walk! The Lambeth Walk, it doesn’t mean you have to sing or dance it, though of course you’re very welcome to. This tour takes us along the South Bank of the River Thames. Sometimes dipping away into the side-streets to get a taste of real London away from other tourists as we go from London Bridge to Lambeth Palace and finish next to the Houses of Parliament.

The Lambeth Walk

Much of the the southern shores of the Thames in this part of London has a mix of industrial Dickensian poverty and a rich showbiz heritage and this is still evident today.  We’ll go past ruined palaces and notorious prisons.

It’s not all doom and gloom though as we’ll also see the famous Globe Theatre and Tate Modern. Then towards the Southbank Centre and the television studios there along with several surprises along the way.

Just as New York was built to be seen from the sea, London was built to be see from the river and you’ll get better views of St Pauls Cathedral, the City of London skyscrapers and the Houses of Parliament than most do on the other side of the river as artists like Monet were well aware of.

Lambeth Palace on The Lambeth Walk

We’ll also visit the ancient Lambeth Palace, home to the Archbishop of Canterbury and head of the worldwide Anglican faith.
